Koru – Punga or Tree fern is iconic New Zealand native flora. New ferns literally uncurl as they grow adding to the umbrella of overhead ferns. These trees will grow to the light and in high dense bush will grow to many metres tall to place the ferns in the light at the top of the bush canopy. This one taken on the Whanganui River Road near Parikino (off State Hiway 4 from Wanganui to Raetihi)
